Where is everyone out there? Enjoying the nice weather rather than blogging I am sure. Well, I was outside too, set up a chair in the backyard to do some reading, which was a nice change from my tiny 'office' all winter. I hope to read outside quite a lot this summer, especially since all the libraries close so early in the day. Grrr. Well, at some point I suppose I should make an effort to start getting up before 11:30, but hey, why should I do that? It is light out quite late now, it is not as though I were missing all the daylight. Ah well, back to the books. :)
Yet another quiz, this one not from the usual source. :)

Second runner up Piscies. :)
The weather is playing cruel tricks on me. It was supposed to rain and thunderstorm all weekend, and now it is sunny and 21 degrees celcius! How am I supposed to get any work done with weather like that?! No fair. Ah well. I know, self discipline and all that. I could go read in the back yard perhaps. But first, need to get myself a sun hat, finally. This is my excuse for a walk downtown. I wonder if Zelda is back yet or not. No posts on the Blog yet, so I will let her sleep and recover from her flight, if that is indeed what she is doing, and hope to hear from her very soon. :) Welcome Back!!

Talking up the period movies with B and J down at the Goat. Good times. It is scary to realize just how many period movies I have watched, and just how much of a movie buff I really am. Part of me says, I am just feeding into the culture of escapism and consumerism and celebrity by watching all these movies. Part of me says it is about art, and at the same time popular culture. (Am I trying to have high tastes and be Marxist at the same time? I don't know) Speaking of which, I was thinking about a movie I watched a long time ago, Burnt By The Sun, about Russia, and, of course, communism. The movie I saw tonight was about communism, somewhat. The best line of the movie was when Brendan Fraser's character says, "Americans are not colonialists". The theatre laughed, in the way you swallow a laugh because it wasn't meant to be funny. Yah. Off to bed for me.

Hey Jeremy, thanks for the info on Wolverine there. Good to know. It just seemed kind of fishy to me that the woman with the metal fingernails also had the same self-healing power that wolverine had, which suggested to me that that might have been created too. I really should read one of these comic books. They look cool. :)
In other news, my readings for my paper are depressing the hell out of me. I should really stop writing my rants on the internet, so I will attempt to spare you all for a little while. Hmm. Perhaps I can journal them instead. I am off to read more depressing stuff at the library. Yah!

So, as some of you may have noticed, I went to see the new X-Men movie this weekend. I am not usually one to care about openning weekends, but you know. Stand up and be counted in the opening weekend money grab statistics, why not. The movie itself was pretty good. With all those great actors and actresses, it would have to work hard not to be at least decent. I personally wish they could get that cast together for a fantastic drama. Maybe that much talent has to be sublimated into something less demanding so they don't burn up the screen.
I was particularly struck by the section where we finally see the lab in which Wolverine was created. It reminded me so much of the scene in Frankenstein. There is a vat of strange liquid, which is at least metaphorically, if not literally ambionic fluid. From this emerges the creation of the mad scientist, the monster, who then screeming with his new found force, and with legs wabbly as a newborn fawn, emerges naked and dripping, and runs away from his master/creator. Looked very similar to me. All this also made me wonder, was Wolverine really a Mutant, or was he created from a human into a 'Mutant'? I have never read the comic books, so those of you who have, and know the answer, please don't say I am dumb. If you know, please fill me in.
But the movie itself completely aside, the thing that really bothered me about the movie was all the ads!! I mean, even at a 'cheap' matinee, they charged me $8 to get into the movie (what used to be full price), and then subjected me to watching a good 15 or more minutes of ads, many of which were not even for up coming movies. Now, I do expect to have to watch one or two upcoming movies. However, all the car ads, pop ads, *juice* ads?! What is going on here. There was one that bothered me especially. It was for FiveAlive, and it featured a teenage boy dancing with a carton of juice while behind him tourist posters of different attractions across Canada flash. This boy was wearing a blue t-shirt with a White star on it. Now, considering the patriotic nature of the pictures in the backgroud, one would expect that perhaps he would be wearing a RED shirt, if not one with a nice big MAPLE LEAF on it. Are they trying to subtly imply that America is going to take over Canada, if not by force, then culturally? Hmmm...
The other highly disconcerting thing is that Aberfoyle Springs, a source for Canadian bottled spring water is now under the control of Nestle, that company of ill repute!! What is the world coming too? Are we just going to hand over controll of ALL our natural resources and cultural media to the Americans without so much as a "Hey, wait a second there..."?!

Ok, rant over for now....
Yet another wonderful quiz from the Quiz Master.
